Sharpow PTO School Fundraiser Program

PTO Fundraiser Ideas

The school fundraiser that sharpens your kitchen knives

Your PTO sells $10 kits to families. Families mail in their dull knives. Sharp knives come back. Your school keeps the money.

Get your school started

No cookie dough. No wrapping paper. No catalog. No student selling. Just a kit families actually want to use, and money your PTO collects on the spot.

How it works

Four steps. Done in a week.

1
Your PTO orders a box of 20 kits for $50

Sealed shipping boxes, no blades, no handling. They arrive at school ready to sell.

2
Families buy a kit for $10 at school

Backpack stuffer, front table, or office pickup. Your PTO keeps that $10 immediately. Kits purchased through school links earn $5.

3
Families pack their knives and mail them from home

The kit ID gives them $10 off at sharpow.com, postage is included both ways. Knives never come to school.

4
Sharp knives come back in 5–10 days

Professionally sharpened at Vivront's shop in Edina, MN. Returned in protective packaging.

What your school earns

Two income streams. Money in your account before a single knife ships.

$10 per kit sold to families — your PTO keeps it at point of sale
$5 per order placed through your school's unique link
$150–$500+ typical per-campaign net, depending on kit count
A 20-kit starter costs your PTO $50. Sell all 20 at $10 each and you're at $200 in kit sales alone — before a single link order. Most schools run 40–60 kits and net $300–$500 per campaign.

Why PTO leaders choose this

Families actually want it

Nearly every household cooks with dull knives. This isn't a product they'll stuff in a drawer, it's a service they've been putting off.

Money in hand from day one

Your PTO collects $10 per kit at the point of sale. No waiting on order completions. No chasing families for money after the fact.

No events, no catalog, no selling

Sell kits and share a link. That's the whole job. No delivery routes, no inventory headaches, no volunteer coordination.

Reaches beyond your school

Your school link works for anyone, grandparents, neighbors, extended family. Anywhere in the country.

Safety: no knives at school, ever.

The kits your PTO sells are sealed shipping boxes, no blades involved at any point. Families pack and mail from home. Knives are handled only by Vivront's professional technicians in Edina, MN. Everything ships directly between the family's house and the sharpening shop, USPS approved.

Common questions

What does it cost families?

Families pay $10 for their kit at school, that stays with your PTO. The kit then also applies as a $10 discount at sharpow.com. Sharpening starts at $59 for up to 4 items with postage included both ways, so families pay $49 and up depending on volume.

How long does sharpening take?

Knives are in the workshop for 24 hours. Families typically receive them back within 3–5 business days of Sharpow receiving the kit.

What's the minimum program size?

20 kits. Most schools run 20, 40, or 60 depending on enrollment. We'll recommend the right number for your school size.

Can we run this more than once a year?

Yes, fall and spring both make sense. Knives dull over time, and families who used the service once come back at high rates.

How does the school link work?

Your school gets a unique URL on sharpow.com. Any order placed through that link during your campaign earns your school $5, whether it's a family at school or a grandparent in another state.

Who sharpens the knives?

Vivront, a professional knife shop at 50th & France in Edina, MN. They've sharpened thousands of knives for home cooks, chefs, butchers and restaurants across all 50 states. See also: how we sharpen and what we sharpen.

Is this only for PTOs or can PTAs run it too?

Both. Whether your group is called a PTO or a PTA, the program works the same way. See our PTA fundraiser guide for more.
